Arlington, Minnesota Wins GreenStep Cities Award

ARLINGTON, MN – Wed., July 6, 2016 – PeopleService, Inc. city partner Arlington, Minnesota, was honored with a Step Three Award from GreenStep Cities – an organization that recognizes innovation in sustainability and quality of life. Arlington received the award for implementation of 22 measurable performance actions, which represent the community’s outstanding commitment to environmental improvement.

PeopleService has been partners with Arlington and has provided water and wastewater management to the city since 2007.

Lee Ortloff, lead operator with PeopleService, Inc. and liaison with Arlington city management, said the award is recognition of the community’s strong energy savings program and best practice efficiencies in water treatment that maintain quality levels.

“Together we work to reduce the city’s energy footprint through several strategic measures,” said Ortloff. “Specific projects include reducing electricity use in their wastewater facility, reducing inflow infiltration throughout the city, and reducing the level of chemicals being pumped into the water system – all while maintaining quality water levels and costs overall.“

Minnesota GreenStep Cities is a voluntary challenge, assistance and recognition program to help cities achieve their sustainability and quality-of-life goals. Best practices for the GreenStep Cities designations focus on cost savings, quality-of-life improvements, and energy use reductions that encourage a culture of innovation. As of June 2016, 106 cities (and two Tribal Nations), large and small, have joined and at least achieved the level of Step One city in this voluntary program, which was launched by the League of Minnesota Cities at their June 2010 conference.
