The Clear Take on Water and Wastewater Today

Outstanding people have one thing in common – an absolute sense of mission.

– Zig Ziglar

Alan MeyerIf there’s one thing that can be said of those of us who work in this industry, it’s that we embrace our mission. It’s this mission that keeps us at the watch 24/7, that bolsters independent responsibility, and that drives lifelong learning. And, it’s this mission that keeps us thinking about what more can – and must – be done.

We all know that clean, safe water is largely taken for granted in the communities we serve. Ironically, it’s because we all work to keep water clean and safe that it’s underappreciated. Problems occur in isolated incidents and communities, and we all say a prayer that Flint doesn’t happen to us.

That said, our mission keeps us on our toes. We hold regular safety conferences, we assure that our employees’ licenses and certifications are up-to-date and moving to meet ever-increasing standards, and we help the communities we serve educate their citizens on what they can do.

Finding qualified employees is becoming as big an issue as aging infrastructure. The two likely go hand-in-hand as often the same person has managed a water or wastewater plant for most of its existence and both are “retiring”. Add to this situation increasing requirements and we have a problem that needs action now. PeopleService has a couple advantages here. Our employees reside in four Midwest states. They serve as resources for each other and we all gain exposure to practices that are working well. When we get the opportunity, we work to get in front of DNRs and other regulatory bodies to offer suggestions about how to solve problems we all face – like finding and qualifying talent. And, we work with area community colleges to help raise awareness of the opportunity to work in this field. When we partner with community colleges, we are happy to provide “boots on the ground” tours and learning experiences like internships and apprenticeships. Lucky are the students who have the opportunity to learn from our experts in the field. Lucky will we all be to have smart, interested people entering the field.

Let me know what your issues are in serving your mission. And, let me know if you want to partner toward solutions. We’re ready to put the Power of PeopleService to work for you.
